The composer

One base caption, multiple platform variants, native limits respected. Here's how to use the composer effectively.

Anatomy of a post

A Flowtive post is a container. Inside it lives one variant per platform you publish to:

Conceptual model
Post
├─ Variant: Instagram (carousel of 3 images)
├─ Variant: Twitter / X (text + 1 image)
├─ Variant: LinkedIn (text only)
└─ Variant: Threads (text + 1 image)

Each variant has its own caption, hashtags, media, and platform- specific settings (e.g. Instagram "share to Feed" toggle, YouTube category, Pinterest board, X reply settings).

The base caption

Start by writing your base caption in the main text field. This is what you'd say if every platform behaved the same. Keep it natural — don't pre-format for any specific channel.

AI rewrite per platform

Click "Rewrite for each platform" and we generate one variant per selected platform, each respecting that platform's tone and structural conventions:

  • Instagram — emoji-rich, story-style hook on line 1, hashtags grouped at the end (8–15).
  • X / Twitter — punchy, broken into short lines, 0–2 hashtags at most. Trimmed to 280 chars.
  • LinkedIn — professional, ends with a question. Hashtags woven in (3–5).
  • TikTok — high-energy hook, "wait for it" or "here's why" opener, 3–5 hashtags including 1 trending.
  • Threads — casual + conversational. Slightly longer than X but in the same voice.

Media handling

Drop images or video into the media tray and the composer maps them to each variant's spec automatically:

  • Aspect ratios — IG square/portrait, TikTok 9:16, YouTube 16:9 or 9:16 for Shorts. We don't crop — we warn if the file won't accept on that platform.
  • Image carousels — Instagram, LinkedIn, and X support multi-image. Reorder by drag.
  • Video — uploaded once, used by every variant that supports video. Length limits enforced (TikTok 10min, X 2:20, IG Reel 90s).
  • Storage — files live in your media library and count against your plan's storage cap.

When to publish

Below the composer is a schedule strip with three options:

  • Post now — publishes within ~10 seconds.
  • Best time — pre-fills the next slot from your historical engagement curve. Read the math in Scheduling & calendar.
  • Pick a date/time — calendar + time picker, in your workspace timezone.

Approvals (Pro / Agency)

On Pro and Agency plans you can require posts to be approved before publishing. An "Editor" can write + schedule, but posts sit in pending_review until an "Owner" or "Admin" approves. See Team & workspaces for roles.
